Can school programs and extra-curricular activities count toward my Award requirements?
Yes, a number of school programs and extra-curricular activities will satisfy the requirements to receive an Award. For example, soccer practice can be used for Physical Fitness, band practice satisfies for your Special Skill, and becoming an after-school tutor serves as your Community Service. Activities can be performed in a non-school environment as well. Participants can chose from a virtually unending list of activities, or their Award Leader can approve appropriate activities.
How long does it take to receive an Award?
The minimum time periods are:
- Bronze – 6 months
- Silver – 6 months
- Gold – 12 months
Can I use karate for both my Skill AND Fitness?
No. You must choose a different activity for each of the Award’s Four Tenants (Fitness, Skill, Service, & Journey). While some activities – like karate – can techically satisfy the requirements of more than one Tenant, you must choose different activities for each.
